Troubleshoot Printer Spooler Errors

The main function of managing printing jobs transmitted from a machine to a printer is a printer spooler. This makes the spooler easier for the computer to interact with the printer. The spooler actually gives the commands needed to execute the print jobs in queue. The user can use the spooler to remove or manage a print job on the list. Any mistakes made with these printers can prevent the printer from performing print jobs.

Such types of printer problems can cause a message of error and require correction of the problem with the spooler to resume the printer function. This includes using the computer to apply the necessary corrections to the spooler software. Any problems with the spooler can completely stop printing, which can affect an office or company’s normal operation, since most of them require a high volume of prints. Some ways to fix the printing spooler errors are shown below.

Verify Spooler Settings

Mostly, changes in printer spooler settings cause errors. Such simple mistakes can prevent the printing jobs and make the documents pending in the queue. One way to solve this problem is to access the settings of the print spooler and change settings. The Control Panel in Administrative Tools > Services > Print Spooler can provide such settings for Windows computers. However, before changing the settings, it is strictly recommended that the printer’s operating manual or technological support be consulted.

Restarting the Spooler

In some cases a simple restart will correct any spooler errors and restore them to their default settings. Usually this is the most effective way to resolve problems associated with the printer while troubleshooting printers. Go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services > Print Spooler for stopping and restarting of a print spooler. To restore the print spooler function, click the Stop and Restart button. Usually, this remedies any spooler errors and restores their normal operation.

Enabling Automatic Start

The printer usually stops printing jobs because the spooler is not ready. This is because the spooler isn’t automatically started when a print request is received. You can go to the Control Panel > Management Tools > Services to allow automatic starting of the spooler and double-click on Print Spooler options. Click on the down menu next to the Startup Type tab and select Automatic to start the spooler automatically.
